Icelandic Sheepdogs
Icelandic Sheepdogs are a medium sized herding spitz that bark! They are versatile, happy, biddable, social dogs. I have been blessed to spend time with many Icelandic Sheepdogs from a variety of breeders around the world and have fallen in love with the breed. They can make loving family pets, but excel with a job. I compete in a variety of dog sports with my Icelandics and I am happy to chat with anyone about the breed and what they are capable of.
My goal in breeding Icelandic Sheepdogs is to preserve their instincts and ability as working dogs while being structurally correct and typey enough to be competitive in the breed ring. Temperament is my number one priority - these dogs should be confident, resilient, biddable and social and it is important to me that they maintain these traits. Of course, even the most willing dog can't do its job well if its body falls apart at a young age - athleticism and stamina are important to me. In general, any puppy I produce should be mentally and physically able to succeed in performance or companion events, while still being a cheerful and enjoyable family dog. Icelandic Sheepdogs do not do well as "kennel dogs" and should be a well-loved part of the family. In general, I give preference to homes that want to "do stuff" with their dogs. Many of my puppies have gone to first time show/performance homes and I am always happy to give guidance and support to new Icie owners wanting to try new things with their dogs! |
